Her Peace

This piece is a visual manifestation of my spiritual journey which is an exploration of self-discovery, reclamation, and the delicate balance between faith and heritage. A Black woman’s hand, steady yet seeking, holds a burning bundle of sage, its smoke curling into the air like a whispered prayer. Surrounding her, florals bloom, symbolizing growth, renewal, and the beauty of stepping into the unknown.

Watercolor, fluid and unpredictable, mirrors my own path—learning to flow, to trust, to release. In my walk with God, I have found grounding, yet I am reclaiming the sacred practices of my ancestors, no longer willing to let colonization or fear strip them of their divine essence. I am learning that to honor where I come from is not to abandon my faith, but to deepen it.

“Her Peace” is my declaration of spiritual autonomy—an unapologetic embrace of all that nurtures my soul. It is the act of shedding shame, of seeking wisdom beyond the confines of tradition, and of stepping fully into the wholeness of who I am meant to be.
