Apart of my southern series, I explored expressionism with this piece. Quick and light brush strokes to culminate into a cohesive piece when the viewer stands back to view the entire piece. The juke joint was a staple in southern black culture. I place where you could be yourself after a long day of work, a place where artists could shine, a place where you might find your new honey. I've got stories of my great great aunts sneaking into juke joints down in Mississippi when they weren't suppose to. History and shared experiences always finds its way back into our lives.
