lInspired by Beyoncé's Formation—a visual masterpiece that feels deeply rooted in Southern culture, history, beauty, and resilience. It's part of a series I've been creating that explores Southern influences and the stories that shape us.

New Orleans has always had a special place in my heart. It's one of those cities that feels alive in a way that's difficult to explain unless you've experienced it. The food, the music, the architecture, the history, the people—there's a spirit there that lingers long after you've left.

One of my favorite memories is traveling to New Orleans with my best friend to see Beyoncé perform in 2018. It was one of those experiences that becomes a marker in time—a memory that strengthened our friendship and remains one of my favorite adventures.

But my connection to New Orleans goes beyond the good memories. During another visit, I experienced one of the most unsettling moments of my life. I became aware that someone appeared to be following me, and before I could fully process what was happening, something urged me to leave. To this day, I can't explain it, but I remember sitting in my parked car and feeling it physically shake, as if I was being alerted to danger. There was no wind, no one nearby, nothing that could explain it. I listened to that feeling and left immediately. Looking back, it felt like divine intervention.

That experience only deepened my respect for the city. New Orleans carries beauty and mystery in equal measure. There is joy and celebration, but there are also stories, spirits, and histories woven into every corner. I've always been drawn to that Southern Gothic feeling—something that is simultaneously elegant, haunting, beautiful, and alive.

This painting was created with those feelings in mind. The soft whites, rich earth tones, Victorian-inspired styling, and quiet strength of the figure all speak to the duality I love so much about Southern culture: grace and grit, beauty and history, light and shadow.

I hope this piece brings a little of that magic into your home.
