Black life has a layered presence. The practice of being baptized in shallow rivers, lakes, and ponds was and still is a deeply southern practice. I wanted to convey the rich history of baptisms in the southern black community. Showcasing a black man being baptized was also intentional. As a rebirth of the image of a black man. Protruding muscles showing strength, head back and open to the skies showing humbleness. A positive depiction of the black male on gallery walls was and still is the goal in changing the narrative of our stories.
