This piece is an ode to the black woman.
The features of the main figures are painted softly, watercolor-like to represent the softness of the black woman. We are free to be soft, sensitive and have moments of weakness and vulnerability.
Figures are placed against a neon orange background which represents the boldness, strength and toughness of the black woman.
Each facet of us is beautiful, complex, and we deserved to be who we are without judgement or need of acceptance from others.
Choosing Lori Harvey is also intentional, as a beautiful black woman that continues to be analyzed by the public for simply being, reflects the experience of most modern day black women.
I painted this piece as an expression of my being as a beautiful black woman and the reminder to all that we can simply just be without having to fit your box of what a woman should be. 🤎
